Bawumia Pays GH¢1m To Clear items At Tema Port For Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital project

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid GH¢1 million to help Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in clearing items at the Tema Port, according to reports.

He intervened in to provide support with the ongoing renovation of KATH in order to facilitate the clearance of critical construction materials from Tema Harbour.

The materials that Bawumia paid for and are required for the project include imported tiles that have been held up at the port, accumulating demurrage and slowing progress.

The rationale behind the locked-up items involving ten containers of tiles with an import duty exceeding GH¢1.7 million, which is causing the project delay.

However, encourage and recognise the project’s urgency, Dr. Bawumia stepped in to issued payment of GH¢1m to ensure the continuation of the vital hospital project.

The ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project, led by Asantehene in collaboration with KATH, aims to generate $10 million for the total reconstruction of the hospital’s Blocks A, B, C, and D.

The initiative is particularly important since it commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene’s enstoolment, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and set to revitalise the nearly 70-year-old tertiary facility.
