Black Sherif Biography

Born in Konongo Zongo, Black Sherif begun his musical journey as an Hiplife artiste with the release of “Cry For Me” on YouTube in 2019.

Later, he transitioned and mixed it with a rap doing drill and hip hop music. On May 25, 2020, he launched his debut single, “Money,” which included a music video.

He rose to fame following the released of his “First Sermon” in 2021 that further expanded his audience, and in July, “Second Sermon” remix was released, featuring a Nigerian artiste Burna Boy.

Black Sherif’s breakthrough moment arrived in March 2022 with “Kwaku the Traveller,” which soared to Number 1 on both the Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music charts, becoming his most renowned song.

In October, he unveiled his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” supported by singles like “45” and “Soja.”

His collaborations have included work with notable artists such as Sarkodie, Stormzy, Amerado, DJ Breezy, Larry Gaaga, and others.

Black Sherif graced the 25th anniversary of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, performing at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London.

Additionally, he hosted his debut concert, the “Mozama Disco Concert,” in Accra in December 2022.

On February 20, 2023, Black Sherif won the Best Hip Hop award at the Soundcity MVP Awards, held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos. On May 20, he performed at the Palladium Times Square in New York City, further expanding his international presence.

Since his debut, Black Sherif has taken his talents to international venues, performing at the Wireless Festival in Abu Dhabi, Something In The Water Festival in Virginia Beach, and Afronation Miami.

Notably, he became the first Ghanaian musician to perform on the Wireless Festival stage in the United Kingdom, and he is the most streamed Ghanaian artist on Boomplay.

He had more nominations after that, but his first major award came at the Headies 2023, when he won the West African Artist of the Year category. Prior to then, he received five VGMA 2023 awards and four 3Music awards in the same year.

Nonetheless, Blacko won three VGMA awards out of seven nominations in 2022. He was also named Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards UK.

On Wednesday, October 5, 2023, Black Sherif won the BET Hip Hop International Flow Award, adding another significant award to his collection. Given the stiff opposition he faced, his victory is quite significant.

Some of the most renowned figures in the globally hip-hop industry, like Central Cee, K.O, and AKA, competed in the Best International Flow category.

His auntie and other extended family members  begun to to raise him at the age of ten in Ghana despite his parents both living in abroad. From an early age, his itinerant lifestyle exposed him to a complex tapestry of influences and varied cultures.

Sherif started his early education at the Konongo Zongo Islamic Basic School before continuing his studies at the Pinamang Educational Complex, where he successfully completed his junior high school education.
