American comedian, actor, and Tv host Steve Harvey, has encouraged black Americans in the diaspora to visit Ghana first if they want to visit Africa.
He made this known in a recent video, by advising Westerners, when traveling to Africa, to visit Ghana first to better understand their culture and the importance of the continent to the world.
The video, shared by Nigerian YouTuber Walethewave1, encourages people to put aside all preconceived notions and visit Ghana first and then Botswana, the world’s second largest producer of diamonds, which has much to offer.
“Leave everything you’ve ever heard. After you go to Africa, you got to go to Ghana first, and then you need to go to Botswana because you need to see what we.. (Pause.)” quoted by Pusle.com.gh
He also emphasized that Johannesburg is an essential destination for understanding the essence of African people.
Harvey argued the opposite, specifically referring to Burna Boy, a popular Nigerian musician who have being accused of copying American styles of music.
“Them Africans is us mhen; they are the beat; they are the rhythm; they are the song. They are the hard work; we get our courage from them. When you see them, people, they look just like your family,” he added
Harvey believes that personal contact with Africans helps people understand that they are just like everyone else, with the same rhythms, songs, and hard work.
