Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Kwadwo Twum Boafo has downplayed the relevance of Forbes Magazine’s African of the Year Award, which was recently given to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
While Forbes lauds President Akufo-Addo for repositioning Ghana in the global marketplace as a country relying on its resources and strengths, some Ghanaians have disagreed with the international media brand due to the country’s current economic situation.
Nana Akufo Addo was also presented with the “Life Time Achievement Award” in recognition of his “effort to provide free excellent education to students.” in ghana
However, Kwadwo Twum Boafo, a member of the opposition NDC, stated emphatically that, for the fact that well-known people have received the Forbes award in the past, the likes of accused Nigerian fraudster Ramon Abass (Hushpuppi) receiving the honor calls the prize’s nobility into doubt.
He was later interrupted by the host, Dr Randy Abbey, who declared, “Hushpuppi is a fraudster.”
“Exactly ! Mr Twum Boafo responded. The same publication has awarded Hushpuppi “Entrepreneur of the Year.”
His statement was in response to Kwadaso Member of Parliament Dr Kingsley Nyarko, who appeared on the show and attempted to congratulate President Akufo-Addo on winning the prize.
Hushpuppi is a Nigerian social media influencer who has been charged with fraud and other crimes in the United States.
He is believed to have scammed a US law firm of $40 million, fraudulently transferred $14.7 million from a foreign financial institution, and planned to steal $124 million from an English football team until he was arrested by the Dubai Police in June 2020 and extradition to the United States.
