Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician, Kojo Kurankye, popular known in showbiz as Ras Kuuku, has threatened to sue MTN Ghana if his SIM card is disconnected.

Ras Kuuku claims that, he will take legal action against MTN Ghana if his SIM card is ever cut as he explained that, he is still under contract and that he was required to present identification in order to register his SIM card.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, had previously stated that a self-service application would be made available on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

According to Hon. Ursula Owusu, users of the App will be able to re-register their SIM cards without having to go to a network provider’s office.

She promised that the SIM Registration App would be available for download this week on both Android and iOS, assuming no unexpected circumstances.

For each app registration, there will be an extra 5 cedis in fees. But her decision has led a number of Ghanaians to voice their disapproval of the latest trend.

However, Ras Kukuu speaking on Accra FM on August 4, 2022, admitted on air that he had missed the deadline to re-register his SIM card.

“My SIM card isn’t activated yet, but I’ve already registered. I’m under contract with MTN,” he said.

Upon being threatened with disconnection, he said, “Once they disconnect me, I’ll sue MTN because we have a contract, the contract has not been annulled, so why would you disconnect me when I paid and used my ID to register the number?”

This mandatory SIM card re-registration process is now set to deadline on September 30, 2022.
