Tyler Christopher Biography
He rose to fame for portraying Nikolas Cassadine and Connor Bishop on the ABC soap opera General Hospital. In 1993, Christopher, credited as Tyler Baker at the time, auditioned for the role of Stone Cates on General Hospital, but the role ultimately went to Michael Sutton.
However, his career took a significant turn when, in April 1996, he was cast as Nikolas Cassadine, signing a three-year deal and filming his first scenes in late June 1996.
Christopher decided not to renew his contract with the soap in June 1999, and he began making appearances in primetime.
In March 2003, Christopher’s return to General Hospital was announced, and it was described as an opportunity the show couldn’t miss by the then-executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps.
His tenure on the soap continued until March 2011 when he was released from his contract due to his casting in ABC Family’s The Lying Game, produced by former General Hospital head writer Charles Pratt Jr. Christopher’s last appearance on General Hospital was on June 30, 2011.
In March 2013, he made a recurring return to General Hospital while also working on The Lying Game. By June 2013, he had signed a regular contract with General Hospital, coinciding with the cancellation of The Lying Game.
In May 2016, actor Nick Stabile temporarily filled the role of Nikolas while Christopher was unavailable. Negotiations between Christopher and General Hospital fell apart in September 2016, and he did not reprise his role.
In August 2017, Tyler Christopher joined the cast of Days of Our Lives in a newly created role, having previously made a one-episode guest appearance on the show in 2001.
He portrayed the character Stefan DiMera from December 29, 2017, until his last episode on March 20, 2019.
On November 11, 2019, Tyler Christopher was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana. He pleaded guilty and paid a small fine.
Sadly, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Christopher passed away at the age of 50 from a “cardiac event” in his apartment in San Diego.
