Thousands of Ghanaians storm Kotoka International Airport to welcome Dutch international of Ghanaian origin Memphis Depay, On Wednesday evening, June 15, 2022.
The Barcelona star arrived in ghana and appeared to be astonished by the welcome and even joined in with the dancers to demonstrate his dancing skills.
Depay was born in the Dutch city of Moordrecht, to a Ghanaian father, Dennis Depay and a Dutch mother, Cora Schensema. His breakthrough came with PSV Eindhoven, and in the summer of 2015, he signed a dream contract with Manchester United.
After a failed tenure with Manchester United, the 28-year-old went to Lyon and now plays for Barcelona.
Depay may not have played for Ghana, but he has strong ties to the West African country and returns frequently to see his family.
The Dutchman is now the Netherlands’ deputy captain and has been one of the team’s top performers in recent years.
Depay stole the show once again on Tuesday, scoring a last-minute winner in the UEFA Nations League as Louis van Gaal’s team defeated Wales 3-2.
He is now the second top scorer of the Dutch national team with 42 goals and is eight goals shy of Robin Van Persie’s record.
In 2019, he visited many areas of Ghana especially Cape Coast for charity actions.
