The Ghana national team, the Black Stars, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Mexico in their first international friendly match at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, USA.
Currently, the Black Stars of Ghana are touring the United States to prepare for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The game commenced with Ghana displaying great enthusiasm and launching early attacks. However, Mexico assumed firm control of the match from the 25th minute onward.
Unfortunately, Ghana encountered a significant setback when they substituted Joseph Aidoo in the 28th minute due to injury, with Alidu Seidu from Clermont Foot taking his place.
Ghana adopted an effective three-defender formation for most of the first half, resulting in a goalless draw at halftime. In the second half, Salis Abdul Samed replaced the stand-in captain, Thomas Partey.
Hirving Lozano, PSV Eindhoven star scored the game’s first goal in the 57th minute. Mexico further extended their lead in the 72nd minute when Uriel Atuna seized an opportunity during a counter-attack.
In response to the second goal, Chris Hughton introduced more offensive power into the game, incorporating players like Jordan Ayew, Ernest Nuamah, and Inaki Williams, and implementing tactical changes.
Nonetheless, Ghana faced challenges in breaking through Mexico’s strong defensive line, and Ariel Atuna capitalized on an error in the 72nd minute, sealing the victory for Mexico with a second goal.
