The 50th Annual American Music Awards (AMAs) were held yesterday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
The AMAs is an event put on to recognize and celebrate talented people around the globe, as well as the most popular musicians and music between September 24, 2021 to September 22, 2022. Wayne Brady hosted this year’s event, which aired live on ABC.
Nigerian decorated singer, Wizkid has set a new standard by winning two awards at this year 2022 American Music Awards. He won the first-ever award category “Favorite Afrobeat Artist” of the year, beating his compatriots which include Burna Boy, CKay, Tems, and Fireboy DML.

Wizkid also added another award to his catalogue after beating Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Muni Long, SZA, Silk Sonic to win the “Favorite RnB Song with his mega hit “Essence” featuring Tems.
Nigerian Tems also won an American Music Award for “Favorite Hip Hop Song” with “Wait for You,” a song she was featured on by Future and Drake, being the first female artist to do so.
Other winners included Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Chris Brown, Bad Bunny, BTS, Dua Lipa, among others, but the night belonged to Swift Taylor, who won all six categories in which she was nominated.

The Macavity hitmaker, Swift Taylor won the top most award Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop Album, Favorite Female Pop, Favorite Country Album, Favorite Music Video, and Favorite Female Country Artist, bringing her career total to 40.
Other performers at the American Music Awards were Steve Wonder, Lil Baby, Chalie Puth, Dove Cameron, Bebe Rexha, Carrie Underwood, and Imagine Dragons.
