Ex-football legend, Abedi Ayew Pele and his family visited the late Christian Atsu’s family to mourn the late Ghanaian international.

Abedi Pele, the father of Black Stars captain Andrew Dede Ayew, paid a visit to Atsu’s family to console them.

Christian Atsu was one of the 45,000 people killed in the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria three weeks ago.

His mortal remains were returned to Ghana on Sunday evening, February 19, 2023, and were welcomed by government officials including Vice President Dr Bawumia, Dr Oppong Nkrumah, and others at the Kotoka International Airport.

It was also reported that the body was taken to 37 millitary hospital before being handed over to the deceased’s family.

However, Abedi Pele paid a visit to Atsu’s family home in Ogbodjo, Accra, where he was caught on camera wearing all-black clothing, indicating his grief for the former New Castle United star, who died at the age of 31.

He took to his official twitter account and wrote : “We commiserates with the family of our late brother Christian Atsu..At the family house. Rest well Christian!! #Ayewfamily”

Meanwhile, Abedi Pele played for the Ghana National Team as an attacking midfielder, leaving his mark by winning more accolades for himself and the country before hanging up his boots in 1998.

He began playing football in 1978 and has played for several European clubs, including Lille, but he won the UEFA Champions League with Olympic Marseille in 1993.

Abedi won the African Cup of Nations with Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, in Libya in 1982.

How Did Abedi Pele Get His Name?

The name Pele was given to him in recognition of his superior ability which drew comparisons to the late Brazilian Pelé.
