An emotional video circulating on social media had sparked a huge debate among netizens after an elderly Ghanaian fish seller was seen breaking down in tears, claiming that a customer paid her with counterfeit GH¢200 notes and left her with not money from her day’s sales.
According to the eyewitness in the video, the incident occurred while she was selling fish to customers as she normally does.
A buyer approached her stall, bought fish and other items, and paid with three GH¢200 notes.
She reportedly accepted the money without suspecting that the notes were fake.
It was only later, after other customers and nearby traders examined the money, that she realized the notes were not genuine.
By then, the customer had already left the area making it impossible to her to recover either the fish or the money.

In the viral clip, the elderly seller could be seen distressed while crying profusely making her to unable to explain what happened to people around her.
An eyewitness was heard in the background of the footage comforting the fishmonger while expressing her sympathy to her over the situation.
In response to the video, many online watchers have also expressed their anger over how vulnerable traders are often targeted by fraudsters.
Some commenters also called on the public to support the woman and other low income sellers who rely on daily sales to survive.
Others claimed that the customer who displayed such behavior had incurred curses on himself as a result of the excessive flow of tears coming from her eyes due to pain.
They further also urged market authorities to intensify public education on how to identify counterfeit currency especially among elderly traders who may finds it difficult to detect fake notes quickly during busy sales periods.
