England’s long wait for major tournament victory goes on after Spain substitute Mikel Oyarzabal secured Euro 2024 glory in Berlin.
Nico Williams gave Spain the lead in the first half, as Spain’s Dani Olmo cleared from Marc Guehi late on as England were left bereft.
England were able to clinch a goal to equalise, however, moments after Cole Palmer was brought onto the pitch, much to the joy of England fans that had packed into the stadium.

Forward Oyarzabal got on the end of Marc Cucurella’s cross to win it for Spain in the 86th minute, after Cucurella’s Chelsea’s team-mate Cole Palmer had scored England’s equaliser within moments of coming on.
This is now England’s second loss in the final of the Euros championship in a row, after losing to Italy on penalties in the delayed 2021 tournament.
Spain were the best team at the Euros. They had knocked out the hosts Germany and the favourites France and they have beaten England and have now won their last four major tournament finals.
