Ghana’s Paralympic team has absconded to other Schengen states after arriving in Norway to prepare for the games.
The team dissapeared in Olso ahead of their competition in the country which has sparked a huge among the officials and fans online.
According to sources, the team arrived in Oslo as scheduled to participate in a Paralympic event. However, shortly after their arrival, it was discovered that several athletes were unaccounted for.
Authorities have since confirmed that these athletes have likely crossed into other Schengen countries, taking advantage of the open-border policy within the Schengen Area.
Their escape from the camp has aroused concerns, with many questioning the security protocols and monitoring mechanisms.
In a statement released by the National Security authority on July 3, 2024, a member of the team, Nana Antwi was earlier apprehended and detained in late April by Norweigian security officials after attempting to depart to Sweden.
The coach of this ‘team’, George Gyamfi Gyasi, met his untimely death shortly after being admitted to the Oslo University Hospital (ULEVAL) following his collapse on 28 April 2024.

Reports indicate the absconding of members of the Ghana Paralympic Team to other Schengen states following their arrival in OSLO, Norway on 25th April, 2024 for the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon.
It was gathered that the eleven-member team failed to register and participate in the competition.
Norwegian officials have expressed their concern over the situation and have begun coordinating with other Schengen states to locate and address the whereabouts of the missing athletes.
Ghanaian authorities have also been alerted to the situation and are working closely with their Norwegian counterparts to resolve the matter.
The Ghana Paralympic Committee (GPC) has expressed its disappointment and pledged to cooperate fully in the investigation.
The National Security Minister has also indicated that the incident has the potential to affect the chances of Ghanaian national teams who require visas to travel for future competitions.
