Guinness World Records has removed the cook-a-thon category from its website following the suspected fake certificate of Ghanaian Chef Smith also known as Millennium Chef.
The organization’s decision to eliminate the category is due to consistent matters coming from it and the discontinuation of records that can’t be reliably measured and verified.
The move comes after various local media and news sources reported on Chef Ebenezer Smith‘s new record, claiming to have broken Alan Fisher’s longest cooking marathon record.
The celebration, which included a press conference, piqued many people’s interest, prompting them to express their excitement despite the fact that chef Smith’s cook-a-thon journey received little attention.
Millennium is said to have encountered legal issues during the conference, which led to his arrest for allegedly breaching a contract with Nana Boroo.
Sections of Ghanaians began sending numerous emails to Guinness World Records in an attempt to check the authenticity of the Smith’s new record, which dethrones Alan Fisher.
The organization denying Chef Smith’s claim states that he does not hold the title and that his certificate is invalid because “they” were unaware of his cook-a-thon attempt at the Spintex in Accra.
The organization confirmed that the actual record holder is Alan Fisher of Ireland, who set the record in Japan in 2023 at 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds.
The removal of the category from the Guinness World Records website came to light by a social media user who posted a photo to share the activity carried out by GWR.
“Guinness World Records deactivates its “cookathon” category after it seems to have inspired an unstoppable frenzy in certain parts of the world. In Ghana, one contender, displaying a certificate as the new record holder, claims to have cooked for more than 30 days.” — he said
Many people commenting on Chef Smith’s phoney record have expressed their differing opinions, claiming he was phished by an email he received in his inbox claiming he is the new record holder without approval from GRW officials.
Other claims believe he deserves recognition for mobilising the entire nation, including renowned media to cover his press conference.
