Shatta Wale has declared dancehall supremacy following his return to Ghana from Jamaica, where he performed at Vybz Kartel’s freedom street concert.
The self-acclaimed “Dancehall King” asserts that no one in Ghana has contributed more to dancehall music than he has.
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., made this remark at the Kotoka International Airport during his trip to Ghana from Jamaica.
During his arrival, he was welcomed by huge crowd of fans and media who were eager to hear about his experience in the Caribbean land.
Speaking to Max Tv Ghana, Shatta Wale expresses his pride that his recent performance in Jamaica which undoubtedly solidified his position as the African Dancehall King.
He backed his claim by highlighting his extensive experience and impressive track record in the industry, which he felt surpassed that of his Ghanaian counterparts.
Additionally, Shatta Wale recognizes the achievements of Samini and other great dancehall artistes from the early 2000s, acknowledging their influence on the genre.
“I don’t know who is doing dancehall in Ghana has done more than what Shatta Wale because I’ve done it for years. All I want to tell people is that. Let’s just bring and show love to ourselves and respect the craft. Shatta Wale started this dancehall thing before and anybody compare to me [Shatta Wale] is really doing it.
“I won’t say or disrespect anybody shout out to Terry Bonchaka, Yogi Doggie they are my role models those that I watched. Apart from them, Samini was like one of the people that I was working with. But apart from Samini people should give me that title” — he said.
