Artist Maame, mother of Ghanaian artist Ogidi Brown, has taken to social media to share an update on his mother’s Guinness World Record (GWR) Chew-a-Thon attempt.
According to the statement posted on Instagram, Artist Maame’s failed her Guinness World Record Chewing Gum Marathon attempts which took place on February 9.
The statement made by her son, Ogidi Brown, has gone viral on social media, with many Ghanaians sharing their opinions.
However, in explaining why her attempt was unfruitful, the organisation said that the Italian-based Ghanaian woman who participated in the event breached a variety of rules. They wrote:
“Unfortunately Artist Maame’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest CHEWING GUM marathon was not successful because of some unfollowed regulations during the attempt.
They also emphasised how she was scheduled to engage in a seven-day attempt, which she first applied for but did not complete the task, and how she violated the regulations regarding breaks by taking multiple unauthorised ones.
“Artist Maame was scheduled to go for seven days as she applied, but we noticed she only lasted seven hours and took multiple breaks during her attempt.
During their review, they learned that Artist Maame slept during her effort, and they wished her luck in future attempts.
“Additionally, she was seen sleeping during the attempt according to the verified evidence. We wish Artist Maame the best of luck with any future record attempts”.

With this, Artist Maame has become the second Ghanaian person after Afua Asantewaa who are officially been disqualified by the GWR after their participation in the events.
