Chelsea ownership group has officially sacked Enzo Maresca as head coach of the club’s men’s football team after dramatic breakdown in relations and winless run.
The Italian manager was fired with immediate effect on January 1, 2026, after agreeing to part ways with the company, according to reports
Chelsea released a statement on their website announcing Enzo Maresca’s departure, citing the primary reason for his dismissal and claimed they desire to compete in the top four European leagues, and specifically the Champions League.
Despite wishing him well on his new endeavor, the club owners recognized his achievements and success during his glorious days with them.
Chelsea’s statement reads below;
During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track”.
Enzo Maresca joined Chelsea from Manchester City in June 2024, winning the Club World Cup and the Conference League while placing fourth in the Premier League last season to qualify for the Champions League.
His last match before leaving the team was a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge last Tuesday.
As at now, Chelsea is yet to appoint new manager as they face Manchester City on Sunday January 4.
