Popular Ghanaian gamer and social media influencer, Yankey Caleb Alukyi has taken to social media to issue a public warning and formal complaint involving a police officer he claims defrauded him a substantial sum of money over handgun purchase.
In a now-deleted tweet shared on his official Twitter page, Alukyi cautioned students and residents around Techiman to exercise extreme careful when dealing with a police identified as Corporal Francis Asante who is said to be stationed at Tech Police Station in the Ashanti Region.
According to Alukyi, the public should stop engaging the officer in personal or trust-based relationships stressing that anyone who chooses to do so should thread with caution.
Alukyi went further by posting photos of Mr Francis disclosing that he has officially filed a complaint with the Ghana Police Service, after defrauding him and a friend of GHS 20, 000 in January 2024.
He alleged that the money was paid for the purchase of a handgun which the officer reportedly claimed was legally acquired and could be licensed on his behalf.
Alukyi insists that he followed the proper legal procedures before acquiring the firearm, explaining that he only agreed to proceed after receiving assurances that the weapon would be licensed and verified through official channels.
According to him, the officer promised that o eve payment was made all documentation and licensing processes would be handled lawfully.
However, Alukyi claims the arrangement turned out to be deception after Mr. Asante refused to deliver his promises.
He alleged that after payment was made, the handgun was resold to another individual, leaving him without the firearm or a refund.
He further stated that he remains uncertain about the eventual whereabouts of the weapon.
The allegations have caught the attention of many people calling on the Ghanaian Police Service to thoroughly investigate the claims to protect the public trust and ensure accounts within the service.
However, Ghana Police has not publicly responded to the allegations as well as the aforementioned officer has not issued a statement as the time of reporting this news.
