Chris Hughton names his 25-man squad for AFCON Qualifiers against Angola

Ghana new coach, Chris Hughton has named a 25-man squad for the Black Stars’ upcoming AFCON qualifier against Angola.

Chris Hughton named his first 25-man squad on Thursday, February 9, 2023, after being appointed as the head coach for Black Stars by the GFA.

The brunch was led by starboy Kudus Mohammed and midfield supemo Thomas Partey, with Patrick Kpozo of Sheriff Tiraspol club taking the place of Baba Rahman in the Black Stars’ new squad.

With the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, and Kamal Sowah also being a part of the team, Joseph Painstil makes his comeback after being left out of the World Cup squad.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Abdul Manaf Nurudeen were retained as goal keepers, while Jojo Wallacott returns after missing the Qatar 2022 World Cup due to injury.

Tariq Lamptey, Denis Odoi, Gideon Mensah, Mohammed Salisu and Daniel Amartey are also included, while Majeed Ashimeru, Abdul Salis Samed, and Edmund Addo are the midfielders invited.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars of Ghana’s match against Angola will be played in Kumasi on March 23 before travelling to Luanda for the rematch four days later.

The team is joint top of Group E with Angola with four points after two games.

In similar news, Chris Hughton, the has been reported to have turned down a one-year contract offer from the Ghana Football Association.

According to Accra-based Original FM, Chris Hughton was offered a one-year contract, which he declined.

According to the report, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager is seeking a three-year contract in order to build a trophy-winning team.

According to the report, the government of Ghana through the sports ministry, is also in favour of a three-year deal for Chris Hughton, but the FA is only willing to give him one year.
