Who is Bankulli?

Bankulii is a popular Nigerian music producer/promoter and singer/songwriter born on December 24, 1975 in Nigeria, Lagos States, Surulere. He studied Microbiology at the University of Ibadan, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree and was introduced to a new world of sonics, music management, and promotion.

After graduating university,  Bankulli began his internship at R70, a UK-based entertainment company owned by two Nigerians, Ayo Shonaiya and DJ Abass. R70 has developed content and creative for BEN Television on Sky UK and was the first to organize a Nigerian Urban concert in the UK.

He earned the name Bankulli, which means “Stubborn Fellow” in Yoruba in recognition of his football talent at school. The name also refers to the sound made when a percussive instrument is beaten. He established a reputation as a man who connects musicians to their archive within a school.

Bankulli’s career as a talent manager extends the Nigerian and African music industries. He helped build Mo’Hits Records, one of Africa’s biggest record labels working alongside co-founders Don Jazzy, D’banj, Wande Coal, D’Prince, K Switch, and their affiliates.

He later managed D’Banj’s solo career for a time. After that, he managed a number of a musical talents.

In 2019, he was part of Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift album, which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album following  his work on the music project as a vocalist, vocal producer, and songwriter.

In addition to working with Queen Bey, he has collaborated with singers and producers from Nigeria, the United States, and the United Kingdom, giving him worldwide recognition in both Afrobeats and Afropop music.

Bankulli was honoured and invited to join the Grammy Academy class of 2020 as a result of his hard work and dedication to his distinct ability appearing on several projects.

During his altercation with the “Introduction To Trap Fro” owner, the rapper vented his displeasure on Bankulli, accusing him of collecting money from young generation artists in the name of taking them abroad to meet American famous rapper, Kanye West.

After performing in Dubai in 2010, Bankulli met Kanye West at the airport with the Mo’Hits crew, where he built his relationship with the rapper.

In 2011, he worked on a collaborative studio project titled “Watch the Throne,” which was owned by Jay Z and Ye.

The album, which was released by Roc-A-Fella Records, Roc Nation, and Def Jam Recordings, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, an American Music Award for Favourite Hip-Hop Album, and a BET Hip Hop Award for CD of the Year.

He also contributed to Kanye West’s sixth studio album, Yeezus, which was released on June 18, 2013.

The project was in tremendous demand, and it was certified platinum just days after it went on sale on digital streaming platforms.
