Barcelona has signed free agent Johnathan Tah, according to reports. The former Bayer Leverkusen defender will join Barcelona for the 2025-2026 season after his contract with the German club expired without renewal.
Johnathan Tah, who is widely recognised for his aerial strength and speed, will be Hansi Flick’s first signing after joining the club in 2024.
Tah’s ability to tactically react to the offside trap may be the key reason the coach signed him despite having many of the defenders at the back.
On Monday, April 21, the 29-year-old confirmed his exit from Leverkusen after 10 years with the club.
He reveals to German outlet Kicker that he will not be remaining at the club, as both parties have agreed on mutual terms.
“I decided some time ago not to stay here, and the club is already aware of it. As always, I communicated it openly, and everything is clear,” — he states.
Prior to his reported move to Blaugrana, the German defender waited for the club’s approval on financial FairPlay; otherwise, he may have joined one of the Premier League teams interested in signing him.
With the addition of Johnathan Tah to the Barcelona squad, it is highly likely that one player will depart.
Among the names who are on the list of leaving Barcelona are Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo if the European teams are ready to pay their release clauses.
