The Ghana National Football Team, the Black Stars, have failed to qualify for both the 2026 World Cup and the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a series of disappointing performances in the AFCON qualifiers.
The team’s poor form saw them fail to secure a single win in Group F, leading to their early exit from both competitions.
On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sudan, led by former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.
The loss sealed Ghana’s fate in the qualifiers and marked their fourth consecutive game without a win.
Previously, the Black Stars had drawn or lost in matches against Angola, Niger, and Sudan, leaving them unable to advance.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just two points, while Angola leads the group with 9 points, followed by Sudan with 7 points.
Despite having one final game against Angola in the group stage, the Black Stars’ chances of qualification have been officially dashed, even if they manage to win the match.
This disappointing outcome has left fans and analysts questioning the team’s future direction and overall strategy, as the Black Stars face the reality of missing two major international tournaments.
Since Otto Addo took over as head coach of the squad for the second time, fans have expressed concerns about his tactics and player selection for quality performances on the pitch.
With this, Ghana will not play or feature in any of the 2026 World Cup competition that will be hosted in United States, Mexico and Canada.
Meanwhile, Black Stars will play their final AFCON qualifying match away to Angola on Monday, November 11, 2024.
