An unidentified Ghanaian supporter is reportedly arrested in Ivory Coast for attacking coach Chris Hughton after the Black Stars’ poor AFCON 2023 opener against Cape Verde.
The team’s disappointing performance in the 2-1 loss sparked criticism to both players and management, who questioned the Blue Sharks’ selection despite their historic achievement.
There was an unfavourable vibe surrounding the Black Stars’ final result and overall performance.
However, Ghanaian sports journalist Sadiq Adams, sometimes known as “Sport Obama,” has reported that furious fans, dissatisfied with manager Chris Hughton’s techniques, attacked the coach.

According to him, local diplomats intervened to protect Hughton from further damage.
He further claimed in that article that the attacker, who has not yet been recognised, has been apprehended by Ivorian police who are investigating the event.
“One member of the Ghanaian supporters in Abidjan has been arrested for an attack on coach Chris Hughton at the team’s hotel.
“It took the intervention of some Ghanaian diplomats who were around to save the coach.
“The unidentified man has been handed to the Ivorian Police—- he said.
