Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has explain why midfielder Thomas Partey was benched on Monday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Angola.
During the match, many Ghanaians wondered why Hughton made such a decision, leaving the Arsenal star out of the team’s starting line-up.
However, Hughton addressed the matter at the post-match press conference, stating that partey had minor injury issues that posed his significant participation at risk.
“Thomas has a small injury issue and we felt it was too big of a risk to start him,” the Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton explained” – as quoted by footballghana
Despite partey’s absence, Ghana drew 1–1 with Angola, allowing the team to retain its Group E lead in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
