The top three nominees for the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award for 2022/23 have been revealed.
The winner will be announced at the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony on Thursday, August 31 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
How UEFA shortlisted Players For Men’s Player of the Year Award?
The UEFA technical research group picked the initial selection of players based on their performance at both club and national team level during the 2022/23 season.
The top three nominees were then voted on by a jury comprised of the coaches of the clubs that competed in the group stages of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League, as well as the coaches of UEFA’s member associations’ men’s national teams.
A group of journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) were also part of the jury.
Despite the fact that Messi, Haaland, and Kevin DeBruyne are deserving of spots in this year’s award, many have expressed concern, questioning UEFA as to why players like Vinicius could not make it to the final three.
Their constructive criticism of UEFA was based on what Vini did with Real Madrid last season, putting the club on his shoulders and taking them to the UEFA Champions League finals.
