Evva Hanes Biography, Early Career and Personal Life
Evva Hanes is a renowned baker who was born on November 7, 1932 in North Carolina, USA to Alva and Bertha Hanes. She is best known for her centuries-old Moravian cookie heritage. She went to Davidson County High School and was an athlete, playing basketball there.
After graduating from high school, Hanes proceeded to work for Hanes Hosiery, where she obtained experience as a Moravian sugar cookie baker. Prior to her baking career, Evva, at the age of eight, assisted her mother, Bertha Crouch Foltz, in baking on a wood stove until she took over from her in the 1950’s, despite having a full-time job and raising a family. Mrs. Hanes’ Moravian was famous for her Saturday suppers, despite the fact that she usually invited 20 to 30 people and always had far more food than they could consume.
