Born on 30 March 1950 in Boston, USA, Gerry Connolly began his political journey at a young age. His American parents raised him in the city of Boston, Massachusetts.
He attended Maryknoll College in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, before moving to Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in literature and a Master of Public Administration in 1979.
Prior to entering politics in 1995, Connolly worked as a staff member for the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee and served 14 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including five years as chairman, until being elected to Congress in 2003.
Connolly was re-elected to office for the second time in 2007 as a result of his good performance and work rates in the political field.
Connolly, real name Gerald “Gerry” Edward Connolly was also an outspoken critic of the Trump administration, as well as a leader in attempts to examine Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
He served as Fairfax County’s president on the Virginia Association of Counties (VaCo) board, as well as chairing the Emergent Preparedness Taskforce, the Emergency Preparedness Taskforce, and representing Fairfax County on the VaCo board.
