Ghana’s final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been unveiled, with several notable names missing from the Black Stars roster ahead of the tournament in North America.
Among the biggest absentees are veteran captain Andre Dede Ayew, attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus, and midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, all of whom have played significant roles for the national team in recent years.
Their omission has sparked discussion among supporters, although the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the technical team have yet to provide detailed explanations for every exclusion.
Reports suggest that injury concerns may have influenced some of the selection decisions while others cited political as key factor leading to their exclusion from the squad.
The squad features a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents. Goalkeepers Benjamin Asare, Lawrence Ati Zigi, and Joseph Anang have been entrusted with duties between the posts, while the defensive department includes Baba Abdul Rahman, Alidu Seidu, Abdul Mumin, Jerome Opoku, Kojo Oppong, and Derrick Luckassen.
In midfield, Thomas Partey headlines a group that also includes Elisha Owusu, Kwasi Sibo, Augustine Boakye, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Kamaldeen Sulemana.
Up front, Ghana will rely on the attacking trio of Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, and Jordan Ayew, alongside Ernest Nuamah, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Prince Kwabena Adu.
The Black Stars will begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England in Boston on June 23.
Ghana’s final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27, with qualification to the knockout stages at stake.
As preparations intensify, the selected squad will be tasked with carrying Ghana’s hopes on the global stage as the four-time African champions seek another memorable FIFA World Cup campaign.
