While Panaretto assumed Messi will throw away the red ribbon, to his surprise, Messi showed him that he was wearing it around his left ankle after scoring against Nigeria in the final group stage game.
Messi, who reportedly likes the idea of the lucky charm, has continued to wear it in his free time as well as during his most big matches. It was on his ankle after he was crowned world champion and is a “symbol of his success.”
The Indian Express news outlet also reported that, the first eleven Argentina players who competed in this year’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar were all seen wearing the same red ribbon from the Group stage to the final match of the competition throughout the highly coveted Tournament.
Laura Martinez, Rodrigo De Paul were all reportedly captured on camera wearing the lucky ribbon, even during the penalty shootout against France in which goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was also spotted wearing and made two crucial saves from Tchuomeni and Coman.
Paulo Dybala was said to have worn it during the 2018 World Cup and explained how it helped him perform well, he said: “Messi gave me the red ribbon before the game to give me luck and I ended up scoring my first competitive goal for Argentina, so it worked.” smiles.
According to the report, Philippe Coutinho wore the ribbon during the 2018-19 season, when the Brazilian was struggling with a series of injuries at FC Barcelona.
However, one could confidently say that this was one of the Football rituals that helped Argentina team led by Lionel Messi to win the 22nd World Cup last Sunday at Lusail Stadium.
