Christian Atsu’s wife, Marie Claire Rupio has spoken about her current state following the demise of her husband.
In a voice recording shared by Accra-based Peace FM, the widow addresses people who have expressed concern about her well-being. She shares her struggles in putting herself together, saying she misses her husband and was doing everything she could to be strong for her children
“Hey everyone, a lot of you are asking if I am okay now; I am not but I am trying. I am trying to be strong. I have three kids, they need me. I don’t want to talk, I don’t want to eat, I don’t want to sleep, don’t want to do nothing. I just want to be there with him. But life goes on even though it hurts. It hurts right here so much but am trying and I will be strong for my kids. I miss him, I miss him so much,” she said in a teary voice.
The mortal remains of the Ghana international who perished in the devastating earthquake in Turkey arrived home, to a solemn welcome. The remains touched down at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Sunday, 19 February 2023, onboard Turkish Airlines.
His body was received by government delegation led by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and a Ghana Football Association delegation (GFA). Members of the clergy, Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, Ghana Supporters Union members, other members of government, football fraternity members, and others were also present.

In other news, Ex Ghana defender John Painstil has slammed the Ghana Football Association following the death of Christian Atsu.
In an interview on Original Tv with presenter Kaninja, the Kaiser Chief assistant coach said that, GFA must be blamed for Atsu’s death because they ignored him during his prime with the Black Stars.
According to him, the GFA must be held accountable for the player’s death for ignoring him at the age of 31 and allowing him to become surplus to requirements at his club, Hatayspor in the Süper Lig.
“At the age of 31, you snubbed him and kicked him out of your Black Stars. Atsu had been struggling to find a permanent position in a club Since the snub…We are all aware of the value and respect your club accords you when you represent your country. Don’t act as if you loved him when you don’t.” – He told Original Tv
