Who is Rico Lewis?

He has been setting the Premier League on fire with his outstanding performances as a right back, left back, and defensive midfielder. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Bury, Greater Manchester, Lewis’s love for football ignited at a young age, drawing inspiration from none other than the legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali.

His journey to success started early, as he joined the esteemed Manchester City academy at just eight years old. Over the years, he honed his skills and demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities, eventually earning the captaincy of the club’s under-18 team during the 2021–22 season.

It was evident that Lewis was destined for greatness, and the coaches at Manchester City recognized his potential, giving him a place on the bench for the first time during the 2022–23 season.

The much-awaited moment arrived soon after, when Lewis made his Premier League debut on 13th August 2022, as a substitute for Kyle Walker in a match against AFC Bournemouth.

The thrill of stepping onto the field for a top-flight game was undoubtedly unforgettable for the young talent. Not content with just domestic success, Lewis’s abilities also shone on the European stage.

He made his Champions League debut for Manchester City on 5th October 2022, stepping in as a substitute for João Cancelo during a dominant 5–0 victory against Copenhagen.

The comparison to Cancelo, a seasoned player with a similar style, was flattering and a testament to Lewis’s growing reputation.

A true history-maker, Rico Lewis etched his name in Champions League records on 2nd November 2022, when he scored his first goal in a memorable 3–1 win against Sevilla.
