Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale born Charles Nii Armah Mensah has filed a defamation lawsuit against social media commentator and broadcaster, Abubakar Ahmed widely known as Blakk Rasta, demanding GH¢100 million in damages.

The lawsuit, which was filed in January 2026 at the High Court’s Commercial Division, relies on a video that the defendant allegedly posted on Blakk Emprie Media’s social media platforms on December 15, 2025.

The plaintiff claims that defamatory remarks in the video “Shatta Wale, Self Confessed King of Fraud” have harmed his reputation as a public figure and musician.

According to the statement of claim, Shatta Wale that the video received a significant engagement after garnering over 150,000 views on Facebook and over 27,000 views on YouTube within days of its release.

The plaintiff alleges that during the broadcast, Blakk Rasta described him as a “fraudster”, a “thief” and self-confessed king of fraud”, and further suggested that he associates with known fraudsters and allowed stolen money to pass through his bank accounts.

According to Shatta Wale, the comments are malicious, untrue, and intended to scandalise and mock him in the eyes of right-thinking  people in the society.

He contends that the statements damage his reputation both personally and professionally and distress his family, fans, and business associates by portraying him as dishonest, indecent, and untrustworthy.

In his writ of summons, Shatta Wale is seeking several relief from the court including;

  1. A declaration that statements made in the video are defamatory;
  2. An order compelling the defendant to permanently  remove the video and all related defamatory content from his social media platforms.
  3. An injunction restraining the defendant from publishing further defamatory statements against him.
  4. A public retraction and an unqualified apology to be published on the defendant’s social media pages and in full-page advertisements in the Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times and Graphic ShowBiznewspapers,
  5. Damages amounting to GH¢100 million; and
  6. Costs.

The defendant has been ordered to appear within eight days after the writ is served; if he doesn’t, a judgement may be rendered in his absence.

As of reporting this news, Blakk Rasta has not said anything to address Shatta Wale’s defamation lawsuit against him, which has garnered a lot of attention from the public and legal community on social media.
