Ghanaian football legend, Sulley Muntari has said that certain players undertake ‘juju’ a spiritual practices, and that the combination of these rituals (often including herbs, oils, or charms) causes a bad smell in the Ghana Black Stars National team dressing room.
He made these revelations during an interview with 3Sports, where he discussed his football career, stint with the Black Stars, and his views on the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Muntari recounts his experiences and his perspective on Ghanaian football, including how he rejected a stinky changing room in Ghana due to terrible camp conditions.
Due to lack of respect among the players and strange things that always happens in the Black Stars’ camp, he does not allow any one to wash his shirts and clothes.
Muntari also said that Juju does not play an important role in football, citing the Benin national team would have won the World Cup since the country is widely considered as the birthplace of voodoo.
“The changing rooms smell. That respect is not there. I didn’t even want my laundry done. I would take it home. When you get into changing rooms, they smell bad. It is not just one team. Everybody.” — as quoted by Yen.com.gh.

Meanwhile, Sulley Muntari played for the Ghana national team for 20 years, making his debut in 2002. He is best known for his goal against the Czech Republic in the 2006 World Cup, as well as his long-range strike against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup.

He made over 80 appearances for the team and scored 20 goals before being suspended for allegedly assaulting a Management Committee member during the 2014 World Cup.
