Way was appointed Secretary of State of New Jersey in December 2017, following the election of Governor Phil Murphy, and officially took office on February 26, 2018.
On September 7, 2023, Murphy announced that he had chosen Way to be the new Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey, filling the vacancy left by Sheila Oliver’s death. The next day, Way was sworn in to this position, cementing her place in New Jersey politics.

Charles Christopher Way, born December 27, 1972, is a retired American professional football player who played fullback in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Giants for five seasons.
Charles Way’s adventure began in 1972, when his parents, Jacqueline and Cleveland Way, gave birth to him. He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Northeast High School before continuing his study at the University of Virginia. Way’s talents were recognised during the 1995 NFL Draught, and he was taken in the sixth round by the New York Giants.
Way made an impression in his first season, appearing in five games and largely serving as a fullback responsible for blocking, particularly for Rodney Hampton. By the end of the season, he had accumulated 71 yards, 65 of which came from receptions. Notably, in week six of that season, he scored a touchdown.
Way continued to contribute extensively the next season, starting 13 games and primarily serving as a blocker. He scored two touchdowns and had 79 rushing yards and an amazing 328 receiving yards.
