Countryman Songo has branded Black Stars deputy captain Thomas Partey “useless” following Ghana’s World Cup match against Portugal.
On Thursday, November 24, the Black Stars were defeated 3-2 by Portugal in their opening match in the Qatar World Cup at Stadium 974.
Despite a solid effort by Ghana, which included Kudus, Salisu Mohammed, Djiku, and Daniel Amartey, goals from Ronaldo, Raphael, and Joao Felix helped Portugal secure the win and top Group H.
However, in an interview with Good Evening Ghana presenter Paul Otchere Adom, Countryman Songo slammed Thomas Partey, labeling him “useless” after his poor performance against Portugal.
According to him, the Arsenal midfielder vanished in the game and was unable to be found, leaving the Portuguese player to dominate the midfield.
“Do you know Partey was a very useless player in the game?” You haven’t seen him play the way he has at Arsenal.
When asked why Partey was ineffective, he stated, “If you want to see Partey well in a game, you need to have a really good tackler or a game passer alongside him.”
When asked if he can be compared to Michael Essien, Songo responded, “Partey is a normal player and cannot compare himself to Essien since Essien is a complete midfielder who is a superb passer, very strong in the midfield, and scores from wide range, whereas Thomas is only good at “break.”
Songo also stressed that, Partey is a good player, but coach Otto Addo must bring out the best in him by offering him with someone who can assist him on the field.
“In the midfield, Otto Addo needs an alternate player who can help bring out the best in Partey”…this is not an experienced coach because he cannot read the game or his opponent in order to make changes.”
“We’re just in this World Cup, and the mentality is that we’ve qualified, so we’re just going to play like that and nothing else,” — Countryman Songo said.
