Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Xabi Alonso, Luis Dela Fuente, Lionel Scaloni, and Gian Peiro Gasperini are the nominees for best men’s coach in the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
The list, which was revealed on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, includes all of Europe’s best coaches and managers in the world from their various clubs and national teams for the 23-24 season.
1. Carlo Ancelotti
The Real Madrid coach won three trophies with the Spanish club, including the 15th UEFA Champions League title, the UEFA Super Cup, and La Liga.
Ancelotti also set a record being the first coach to win five UEFA Champions League titles with two different teams, three with Real Madrid and two with AC Milan.
2. Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola at Manchester City has historically ruled seasons with his attacking football play. He extended his record of four consecutive EPL titles, becoming the first manager to do so since the league’s existence.
He also finished runners-up in the 2023-2023 UEFA Champions League, losing to Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the final.
3. Xabi Alonso
Alonso, on the other hand, just rose to prominence last season with his record-breaking performance for Bayer Leverkusen.
He had the most wins in the club’s history, completing 51 games without losing in all European competitions.
Alonso helped the team win its first Bundesliga title since 1993.
4. Luis Dela Fuente
The Spanish born coach led the Spain National back to their glory days after securing their fourth European Championship.
Fuente won the Euro 2024 after beating England in the Final of the Euro showdown after taking over the coaching job from Luis Enrique.
5. Lionel Scolani
Lionel Scolani made the headlines for his historic victories and trophies. He led Argentina’s national team to their first FIFA World Cup victory since 1986, defeating France on penalties in the final.
Nonetheless, his presence on the Best Coach of the Year list could simply reflect focus on Argentina’s 16th Copa America victory over Uruguay in the Final in July 2024 where he first won it in 2021.
6. Gian Peiro Gasperini
Gian Peiro Gasperini, the current manager of Atlanta, improved his leadership CV with the Italian team last season by ending Leverkusen’s winning streak. He made history by winning the 2024 Europa League, the club’s first title in 62 years.
