Qatar played its first-ever FIFA World Cup game against Ecuador in a Group A match on Sunday November 20 at the Al Bayt Stadium.
Ecuador has defeated Qatar in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup today at Al Bayt Stadium which has capacity of 60,000 people and is one of the biggest venues used at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
According to the statistics, no host country has ever lost their opening match against their opponents since first FIFA World Cup was initiated in 1934.

As a result, Qatar has become the first national team to break that record, after losing their first match on home soil at Bayt Stadium despite months of preparation.
Ener Valencia scored a first-half double for Ecuador as he overwhelmed the hosting side Qatar as Ecuador’s best player.

The first half was all about the South Americans’ dominance, as they totally outplayed Qatar. The first goal was a penalty scored (on the 16th minute) while the second was a spectacular header (on the 31st minute).
Qatar and Ecuador have only met one friendly match, which the Arabian side won 4-3 on October 12, 2018.
