On Friday, February 28, Kumasi Circuit Court 2 remanded suspected KNUST student killer Daniel Tuffour who is 21 years old into prison custody for two weeks.
He appeared in court for the first time today after being arrested on Thursday following allegations that he murdered his girlfriend Joana Deladem Yabani.
Joana, a female Bachelor of Science in Biological Science student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, was tragically found dead on campus.
The lifeless body of Joana Yabani who was 21 years old was reportedly found near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Center around 5am on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
She was rushed to the University Health Services by some Good Samaritans to help save her life but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel, who were on duty at the time.
What resulted in the demise of Joana was not immediately known but allegations making rounds suggest that she may have been murdered.
A press release, dated February 27, 2025, authored by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar, University Relations Office, KNUST, said the heartbreaking incident has been reported to the bereaved family.
“The university has officially informed her family, and we extend our deepest condolences to them during this difficult time”, he wrote, adding that investigations into the case are currently underway as quoted by dailyguidenetworks.
“A comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
“The university management is fully committed to ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to ascertain the facts”. Dr. Norris Bekoe indicated and said KNUST was committed to ensuring the safety of its students.
He said, “We wish to assure the university community and the public of our unwavering commitment to safety and well-being of all students and staff”, advising against the spread of false information about the death
“We urge everyone to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this difficult time. We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds”, he indicated.
However, Daniel, Joana Yabani’s boyfriend who was accused of killing her, was remanded to two weeks in custody during a court hearing today.
According to reports, Daniel’s remand serving is part of the investigating process, and he will receive a definitive decision after 14 days.
