Kwame Obeng Asare, the MP for Gomoa Central popularly known as Kwame A Plus has sparked political debate by saying that fuel prices and the vehicle cost had gone down significantly since President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC took over.
In a social media post dated on January 19, 2026, A-Plus cited Honda CR-V, a popular SUV in Ghana, as a clear example of how the market has changed.
He says that the car that was sold for GHS750,000 not long ago can now be bought for about GHS450,000, which means that the price has dropped tremendously.
The controversial politician noted that petrol is currently selling for about GHS9.99 per litre, which has shocked many Ghanaians because they are already worried about the economy getting worse.
“Fuel prices have dropped to about 9.99 Eiii The Things John Mahama is doing after only eight years in opposition,” A-Plus said, expressing disbelief at what he considered as swift economic progress.
A-Plus focused on his political point, asserting that longer periods in opposition can help a political party do better when it return to power.
According to him, if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were to spend a similar or longer time in opposition, it could return stronger and more effective.
“If NPP can stay in opposition for at least 20 years, I’m very confident they will perform better than any government in the world when they return” he added
A-Plus’ remarks generated a lot of different reactions online. Many fans, especially NDC supporters, saw his view as support for Mahama’s economic strategy which he called the ‘Reset Agenda’ since elected.
Critics contend that car and fuel prices are impacted by plenty of factors, including global markets, exchange rates, and the import duties.
