Ghanaian broadcast journalist and mother of three, Afua Asantewaa, has embarked on her second attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. Her new challenge is scheduled on Sunday, December 21, 2024, however the conclusion date for the attempt is yet to be revealed.
According to previous flyer shared by Asantewaa, the event will be broadcast live on Ghana Television’s (GTV’s) Breakfast Show at 8:30 GMT.
Asantewaa aims to surpass the current record held by India’s Sunil Waghmare, who set the benchmark on March 3, 2012, by singing non-stop for 105 hours.
Afua Asantewaa first attempted the record in December 2023 during a five-day sing-a-thon held at Akwaaba Village, where she recorded over 126 hours and 52 minutes equivalent to ( 5 days, 6 hours, and 52 minutes) of continuous singing.
However, her effort was deemed unsuccessful because she did not meet specific criteria outlined by Guinness World Records.
Excited about her second attempt, Asantewaa took to social media to share her announcement with her followers.
Posting a flyer promoting the event, she expressed gratitude to her fans for their unwavering support and shared her enthusiasm for the challenge ahead.
“Here we go, I’m excited and ready,” she wrote on Instagram.
