Asamoah Gyan started his footballer journey at younger age. He finished primary school in 1999 at Seven Great Princess Academy in Dansoman. He continued his education at Accra Academy Secondary School from 1999 to 2002 after successfully completing his basic education.

On Tuesday, 20th June 2023, Asamoah Gyan officially announced his retirement from professional football during Afremximbank 30th Annual Meeting at the Accra International Conference Centre.
