Court Fines Afia Schwarzenegger GH$60,000 And Bans Her From Social Media Banter For 2 Years

The Tema High Court fined Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger GH$60,000 instead of jailing her. 

Afia Schwarzenegger appeared in court on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, and pleaded with the court to rescind her jail sentence, which was granted. 

Her 10-day sentence was commuted after she apologised to the court after being sentenced. 

According to Chairman Wontumi’s lawyer, Maurice Ampaw, confirmed in an exclusive interview that, the court has also ordered Afia Schwarzenegger to stay away from social media  banter for two years after paying the fine.

He also urged the public not to be hesitate to contact the police if the comedienne insult them on social media. 

BACKGROUND

Afia Schwar was sentenced to serve 10 days in jail for the defamatory comments she made about Chairman Wontumi on UTV about 5 months ago.

The comedienne was not in the country when the court dismissed its final verdict in her infamous contempt case with Chairman Wontumi. 

She was sentenced to ten days in prison for contempt of court in 2022, but she did not serve it. 

On December 20, 2022, her lawyers filed a motion on notice for a sentence variation. 

The Tema Circuit Court also fined Nana Ama McBrown, A Plus, Fadda Dickson and the Management of the United Showbiz programme GHC 60, 000 each for contempt.
