Veteran Ghanaian actress Evangelist Agnes Abban, popularly known as ‘Maame Fante’ or ‘Agaga’ has reportedly died.
Maame Fante who is the mother of gospel singer Empress Gifty now Gifty Adorye passed away at the age of 60 on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the hospital after a short illness.
Her passing has caused huge pain and sorrow in the Ghanaian movie industry, with many people flooding social media with RIP messages.
Sadick Assah, CEO of Sleeky Promotions, who confirmed the news to hellovybes.com, is one of the celebs who have extended their deepest sympathies following Maame Fante’s death.
In an instagram post he encourages and prays for the bereaved family, including Empress herself.
‘I extend my sincere condolences. May God’s love and strength guide you through the pain of losing your dear mother. You did everything possible to save her but God knows the best. You made her proud and gave her everything a mum deserves. Be strong @empress_gifty”- he wrote.
The family of Maame Fante announcing her death on behalf of Empress Gifty issued an official statement described her as a ‘pillar of the family’.
“It is with heavy heart that we announce the unfortunate passing of actress, Evangelist Agnes Annan today after a short illness. She was the mother of gospel musician Empress Gifty.
Evangelist Agnes Aba Annan, affectionately called Agaga was a pillar of strength and love of her family.
Announcement regarding further arrangements would be shared in due course” — the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Maame Fante was an actress best known for her comic style and Akan a dialect, a language spoken primarily by Takoradi people.
She participated in several films, including Obra, a Ghanaian television series, and worked with experienced Kumawood actors and actresses such as David Dontoh, Maame Dokono, and Adwoa Smart, among others.
Maame Fante died just 24 hours after a self-acclaimed Prophet predicted Empress Gifty’s doom in her own car.
According to him, he observed a ‘darkness’ surrounding the UTV presenter, resulting in her death.
He also asked fans to pray for Empress in light of the revelation he had witnessed, and he encouraged her to strengthen her prayers.
