Ghanaian celebrities have taken to social media to express their disappointment with the officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for failing to honour the late Christian Atsu at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.
These celebrities express their dissatisfaction, claiming that the late Ghanaian footballer deserves attribute at AFCON 2023 for his outstanding efforts and past achievements.
Among the Ghanaian musicians, Guru NKZ is the latest to offer his support trot late Atsu claiming that, the former Newcastle United footballer, who tragically died in the 2023 Turkish earthquake has not received enough recognition from the football organisation.
In their petitions, they explain why Atsu deserves a farewell tribute or, at the very least, a ‘minute of silence’.
They highlight Atsu’s major achievements, including his pick as Best Player of the Tournament in the 2015 Africa Cup, where he received the prestigious award for his outstanding performance.

Christian Atsu’s Death
On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Christian Atsu was found dead under the wreckage, days after a 7.9″8 magnitude earthquake devastated northern Syria and Turkey, killing over 2000 people.
A Turkish agent confirmed his death after his body was discovered lifeless after 13 days trapped underneath the rubble.
According to CCTV footage that has appeared online, Astu drove his car before the Rönesans Residence building collapsed during the earthquake in Turkey.
According to the source, the rescue team discovered his passport under the debris while searching for the missing player.
Later, the former Chelsea winger was found and pulled from the debris, but his body was lifeless and confirmed dead, as well as his Sporting Director Taner Savut who also died as a result of the devastating earthquake.
