Howard University, a renowned Washington, DC-based school, has stripped Sean Diddy Combs’ Honorary Degree and returned his $1 million donations to the educational institution in 2023.
This comes just a few days after Combs was caught in a viral video assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura in a 2016 hotel surveillance video, as well as his several ongoing sɛxual assault lawsuits.
The acclaimed rapper’s current dominance on social media comes amid allegations of rape and sɛx trafficking by multiple individuals, the PEOPLE reports.
Despite denying all allegations and claims brought against him since 2023, a federal agents raided Diddy’s $40 million mansion and other properties in May for an investigation.
Despite expressing apology for his acts in the terrifying video, the 54-year-old music mogul’s situation has worsened after Howard University took away his honorary degree title, which he received in 2014.
In a statement released on Howard University’s website, a spokesperson addressed Combs, stating that the school’s Board of Trustees “voted unanimously today to accept the return by Mr. Sean Combs of the honorary degree conferred upon him in 2014.”
It adds that, the decision of “this acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree”.
With this, his name will be removed from the school’s system and archives documents, as well as lists of those who have received honorary degrees from the university .
Speaking about the troubling video, the spokeswoman went on to say “Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor.”
“The University is unwavering in its opposition to all acts of interpersonal violence.”
Howard explains that they discontinued their connection with Sean and returned his gift after donating $1m to the school.
“No payments toward the $1 million pledge have been due or made by the Sean Combs Foundation as of this date,” so there are no funds to return for the 2023 pledge agreement” — Howard University said.
Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.”
