Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the President of Burkina Faso, has broken his silence following threats from the United States involving potential arrest, elimination, and military invasion.
His public response comes after U.S. AFRICOM Commander General Michael Langley accused Traoré of misappropriating the country’s gold reserves during a recent U.S. Senate hearing.
In a national address, Captain Traoré condemned what he described as ongoing foreign interference and propaganda campaigns aimed at destabilizing Burkina Faso.
“We must choose to fight, or we will remain slaves forever,” he declared, referencing the country’s colonial history and his government’s determination to maintain sovereignty.
The Burkinabé leader accuses the U.S. and other Western nations of using misinformation to demoralize the nation’s people.
He asserts that these powers were intent on undermining his leadership and the people’s desire for true freedom and independence.
In his address, Traoré also indicates his administration’s intent to pursue legal action against certain foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that he claims have suppressed national progress and violated the country’s autonomy for years.
He called the continued presence of such organizations a “dirge” to the nation’s freedom.
General Michael Langley, head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), publicly accused Traoré of looting Burkina Faso’s gold reserves for personal gain.
The U.S. general described the captain as a threat to his own people, a claim that has drawn widespread condemnation across African social media platforms.
