Michael Blackson, a Ghanaian-born American comedian, has revealed his political affiliation, claiming to be an official member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.
He made this claim in a recent interview with DJ Vlad, praising the current government led by John Mahama for paying Euro Bondholders over lost monies during Akufo Addo’s tenure.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday, February 17, 2025, the government claimed to have made the Payment-In-Cash (PIC) coupon of GHS6.081 billion to all Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) bondholders.
In accordance with the DDEP Memorandum, the government has also honoured the Payment-In-Kind (PIK) part of GHS3.46 billion deposited into the respective bondholders’ securities accounts.
Additionally, the government has also paid into the Debt Service Recovery Cedi Account (Sinking Fund) an amount of GHS9.7 billion as a buffer for the 5th DDEP coupon that will fall due in July and August, 2025.
Michael Blackson’s excitement for declaring his political viewpoint cannot be ignored, as he previously stated in 2024 about his $1.2 million Ghana investment lost during the NPP’s Akufo Addo administration.
During a recent interview on VladTv Blackson blamed the NPP and former finance minister Ken Ofori Atta, who has since been declared wanted, for the $1.2 million loss.
He then apologises for initially blaming Ghana for the loss and stresses that the NPP government was in office taking action.
“I apologize for blaming my problem on Ghana; Ghana is not the problem. It’s usually the people that are in office that are the problem. So the particular Ministry of Finance from the NPP regime, you know we have Democrats and Republicans here, in Ghana the big ones are NPP and NDC.
