Manchester City has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig, valuing Josko Gvardiol, the Croatian defender, at a record fee of €90 million.
Gvardiol is expected to travel to England this week for a medical examination and to finalize a five-year contract with the club.
Gvardiol previously played against Manchester City during his time at RB Leipzig, wherein they faced a disheartening 7-0 defeat in the Champions League round of 16 last season.

The departure of key players, including Ilkay Gundogan, who moved to Barcelona on a free transfer, and Riyad Mahrez, who joined Saudi Pro-League side Al Ahli for £30 million, has prompted Manchester City to actively bolster their squad.

As Mahrez’s spot remains vacant, Manchester City has acquired Mateo Kovacic for £25 million, potentially mitigating the impact of Gundogan’s departure.
The center defense lineup now comprises Nathan Ake, John Stones, Ruben Diaz, Aymeric Laporte, and Gvardiol.
At 21 years old, Gvardiol brings considerable experience to Leipzig, having played 87 matches since joining from Dynamo Zagreb in 2021. Additionally, he has represented Croatia at the international level, impressively scoring two goals in 21 games.
Notably, Gvardiol played a crucial role in Croatia’s third-place achievement in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and he was also a key member of the team that finished second to Spain in the UEFA Nations League earlier this year.
