Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier and his son John Valovic-Galtier have been arrested as part of a discrimination investigation at OGC Nice.
The coach and his son, a football agent, have been arrested in connection with allegations that Galtier made anti-semitic and Islamophobic comments against players during the 2021-2022 season when during his spell at OGC Nice. .
An investigation into the case was reportedly initiated in April 2023 following the leak of emails from former Nice football director Julien Fournier, in which Fournier said Gaultier has complained that there were “too many black and Muslim players” in the team.
“He [Galtier] told me that I should take account of the reality of the city and that in effect we should not have as many blacks and Muslims in the team.
“He told me he wanted to profoundly change the team’s make-up and limit the maximum number of Muslims” —Fournier said as quoted by Aljazeera.
In response to these allegations, coach Galtier released a statement in April 2023, expressing his shock and categorically denying the accusation as offensive and defamatory.
“Given the seriousness of the accusations against him, and which he firmly denies, Christophe Galtier has asked his lawyer to begin without delay the judicial proceedings which are all the more necessary given that, since this came out, he has been the target of intolerable threats and harassment,” the statement said.
Christophe Galtier also took legal action against Julien Fournier and the journalist responsible for the publications by filing a defamation suit.
The former Olympique Marseille player spent one season at Nice before joining PSG in the summer of 2022.
