American rapper Tay K, whose real name is Taymore McIntyre, has been sentenced to 80 years in prison by Judge Stephanie Boyd of the 187th District Court in Bexar County, Texas.
The sentencing took place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 and comes nearly eight years after the fatal incident that occurred at a Chick-Fil-A parking lot in San Antonio.
Tay K, now 24 years old, was convicted for the murder of 23-year-old photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar in 2017.
Authorities say the incident happened when Tay K was just 16 years old and involved the theft of Saldivar’s photography equipment, followed by a fatal shooting.
Originally charged with capital murder, Tay K has since become a controversial figure due to his brief rise in the music industry while on the run from authorities, a period during which he released his hit song “The Race.”
It was also revealed during the verdict that the incident happened when McIntyre picked up Saldivar in a car with a gun after forcing him to take pictures of his new song.
He pulled the trigger, causing Saldivar’s death after being left with blood all over his body prompting the officials to arrest him for an investigation.
McIntyre had criticised the police investigation, alleging the case depended too much on self-serving statements from witnesses in the car when the shooting happened.
Tay K, who is best known for the hit song “The Race,” is currently in custody at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he will serve his 80-year jail term until further notice.
During the court ruling, Judge Stephanie Boyd chastised Tay K’s parents for poor parenting, forcing the California-born rapper to sob uncontrollably following his jail sentence on Tuesday.
Tay K has faced numerous charges and allegations. His first murder case was in 2016 when he was convicted for killing 21-year-old Ethan Walker during a house invasion in Tarrant County, for which he received a 55-year jail sentence.
However, with his current sentence, Tay will be released from prison in 2105, or 8 decades if he is still alive after serving his 80-year sentence for killing Photographer Saldivar.
